Pregnancy test helps ascertain whether a woman is pregnant or not. Pregnancy can be chemically traced through testing the urine and blood. With the advent of pregnancy, urine and blood begin to show marked changes in their concentration as well as their composition. The process is a little time-taking though. Chemical tests that are largely carried out, look for beta subunits of HcG in blood or urine.
The home pregnancy tests or pregnancy kits are routinely used by women these days and help in detecting even early stage pregnancy. Such home pregnancy tests are usually based on lateral-flow technology. They use lateral flow Immunochromatographic assays to diagnose the presence of a target analyte in a matrix. Again, these test recognize a change in a woman's urine that indicates pregnancy.
Most of the tests can show negative results, if done too early. When the tests are done keeping the with timing in mind, they show better results. For example when a late menstrual period is used to determine when to take the test, chances of false negatives lessen.
Another common reasons for false positives is the use of over the counter or prescription drugs that can effect the outcome of a test.
