Triplet PregnancyWell, a triplet pregnancy is a pretty remarkable event. But the truth is triplet pregnancies are getting more common every day. There was a time when 4 of out of ten thousand mothers carried triplets, but over the last decade such cases are on the rise.

A triplet pregnancy is usually not an easy one. There are various complications apart from the prenatal and neonatal upheavals. Let's take up the symptoms first. Triplet pregnancy results in huge amount of morning sickness with associated symptoms of vomiting and nausea. Even the resulting stomach cramps and pain in the pelvis are of higher proportions, sometimes tending toward the unbearable. Apart from the morning sickness, there is also the added worry of excessive fatigue to counter. Mothers with triplets hardly get the chance to stand on their feet with firmness. All through the prenatal period of gestation, mothers suffering from such pregnancy feel a muscular shakiness which can take on the traits of feeling like passing out.

The enhanced rate of triplet pregnancies these days can be aligned to the increasingly popular methods of fertility treatments. Fertility drugs encourage ovulation in such a way that more than one egg travels towards a male sperm. With the fertilization of multiple eggs, the chances of twin or triplet pregnancy increases.

Triplet PregnanciesAnother reason for the rise in triplet pregnancies is in vitro fertilization. This technique entails the fertilization of eggs outside the body and its subsequent implantation into a mother's uterus. In such cases doctors transfer more than one egg to the uterus, so that chances of fertilization become higher. Sometimes though, contrary to what they largely expect, more than one egg begins to develop (takes hold) leading to multiple pregnancies.

How do you know if you have a Triplet Pregnancy? Added heartbeats and greater weight gain for mothers can help in the diagnosis of such pregnancies. Both that first ultrasound usually provides the first confirmation.

Pregnancy ComplicationsPregnancy, most definitely, is a blissful time. Mothers all over the world would vouch for the feeling of completion that pregnancy provides. Most women experience pregnancy complication sometime or the other during their pregnancy. Most of these complications are minor and easy to take care of... thus the complications do not pose any undue threat. In a few cases, though, the potential harm can be really monumental.

The most obvious harm that a woman wants to avoid is activities that can cause birth defects. This is largely attributable to radiation, chemicals, drugs or other medications taken during pregnancy for different reasons. These outside agents can inhibit the growth of a fetus and cause birth defects. Of course, if you have a known inherited genetic problem or medical condition that might affect your pregnancy, let you doctor know as soon as possible.

Ectopic pregnancy is a serious complication which has high statistical rate of miscarriages. Ectopic means "out of place." Sometimes the egg while on its course of being fertilized does not reach the uterus and gets jammed in the fallopian tube, abdomen or cervix, (the blockage is caused due to some inflammation or irritation in these organs) Anything apart from the uterus is loosely built and cannot take the stress. This results in their rupture and subsequently profound bleeding finally leading to a miscarriage in most of the cases.

Signs of Ectopic Pregnancy

The dictionary definies "Ectopic" as meaning "out of place." Generally an embryo fertilizes in the uterus, where it grows throughout the period of gestation (the 9 months of being in the womb). But during an Ectopic pregnancy, the embryo fertilizes in the fallopian tube. This is not the normal place. Such a pregnancy is also called a Tubal pregnancy.

There are other types of Ectopic pregnancies. The egg can also get implanted elsewhere. For instance, the abdomen and the cervix are sometimes the the spot where the egg gets fertilized. In such cases, the pregnancy is defined as an abdominal pregnancy or as a cervical pregnancy.

The uterus, by Nature's design, is blessed with strength and flexibility that can withstand the
stresses which come as the fetus increases in size. Other organs, such as the fallopian tube, cannot take the ongoing duress and hence such pregnancies result in severe bleeding. It should not be suprising to learn, that

Ectopic pregnancies rarely metamorphose into live births.

A diagnosis of Ectopic pregnancy can be difficult as most of the symptoms are often confused with those of a more normal kind of pregnancy. These symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, missed periods and breast softness. Typical symptoms during stages of a typical pregnancy. But pain and vaginal bleeding, attributable to an Ectopic pregnancy, are not usual, and are generally the first warning signs.

Sometimes the blood which results from the rupture creates pain in different parts of the shoulder and neck. The pressure in the pelvis which builds up in an Ectopic pregnancy can create pains in a segmented way and the pain thus caused can really vary in intensity. This creates some confusion about what is going on, since pain levels vary... But any pain that you experience should be brought to the attention of your doctor, who can then look to see if you have an Ectopic pregnancy or other problems.

In addition to unusual pain, there can be further manifestations which suggest an Ectopic pregnancy. These can be

  • Low blood pressure.

  • Pain in the lower spine.

  • Passing out or associated dizziness.

  • Vaginal spotting.

Signs of Ectopic Pregnancy

Sometimes a fertilized egg gets stuck in the fallopian tube, instead of passing all the way into the uterus. This results in the gestation taking place in the tube itself.

Why does this happen? A typical reason for the egg to get stuck in the tube is that there is some kind of an irritation or inflammation in the tube. Genetic defects and other anomalous growths are also
attributable to such blockages in the fallopian tube as the egg passes through them to the uterus.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you maybe having an Ectopic pregnancy. It is important that you see your doctor or healthcare provider to determine that you are pregnant and what the status of that pregnancy is.

Pregnancy DietPregnancy is a period marked with great enthusiasm. Would-be mothers think about the post-natal phases in their dreams nand the joys of motherhood... One point to note is that during the first six months of pregnancy, a mother does not require eating anything more than the average calorie-intake. This is because during pregnancy, the body becomes highly adaptable in using energy in a better way. This is why proper balanced diet is enough in itself to pep-up a pregnant metabolism. During the last trimester, though, calorie intake should be increasing.

Recommended foods which can provide such balanced diets are fruits, vegetables, cereals, milk and dairy products, fish/meat and fluids which can be properly assimilated.

Pregnancy DietFishes which are vulnerable to industrial pollutants should be avoidable. Such fishes, especially the large ones have high quantity of mercury present in them. This is highly detrimental for a would-be mother and the child.

Pregnancy TestsPregnancy test helps ascertain whether a woman is pregnant or not. Pregnancy can be chemically traced through testing the urine and blood. Post-fertilization, the fastest way to judge pregnancy is Rosette Inhibition Assay. Such early pregnancy factor can be found out in blood merely 2 days after fertilization. The process is a little time-taking though. Chemical tests that are largely carried out, look for beta subunits of HcG in blood or urine.

The home pregnancy tests or pregnancy kits are routinely used by women these days and help in detecting even early stage pregnancy. Such home pregnancy tests are usually based on lateral-flow technology. They use lateral flow Immunochromatographic assays to diagnose the presence of a target analyte in a matrix. Again, these test recognize a change in a woman's urine that indicates pregnancy.

Pregnancy TestsMost of the tests can show negative results, if done too early. When the tests are done keeping the with timing in mind, they show better results. For example when a late menstrual period is used to determine when to take the test, chances of false negatives lessen.

Another common reasons for false positives is the use of over the counter or prescription drugs that can effect the outcome of a test.

A mother's joy on learning about her twin pregnancy maybe momentarily modified by the complications such pregnancies might impose. So how can you tell if you are pregnant with twins?

There are many signs which suggest twin pregnancies. The first sign is an intensified morning sickness
with its attending symptoms of vomiting and nausea. Due to carrying twins, your body's hormonal adjustments are even more stressful than a one child pregnancy.

Mothers have reported that with a twin pregnancy they experience extreme tiredness compared to a more typical gestation. All expectant mothers may experience fatigue, but those with twins feel it is greater than the routine tiredness. Thankfully, when it comes to delivery time, it does not appear to be that much more difficult in giving birth to two children rather than one.

There are other signs of a twin pregnancy. Your hunger pangs are greater. The reason for this is fairly obvious... Feeding three lives instead of two, is going to demand more calories and cause greater hunger pangs.

Hormone-wise, twin pregnancies can really be a roller-coaster. The body produces greater amounts of hormones to withstand the pressure of a twin birth.

This automatically influences mood swings in mothers. Hence one is bound to witness much larger mood swings in women delivering twin babies. Subtle and raw variations in mood in a small a time period as five minutes cannot be ruled out for such a mother.

Signs of Twin PregnancyOn the medical side, during the early states of your pregnancy, intensified levels of HcG often points towards mother having twins. When an alpha-fetoprotein screening is done to determine any small or large sized birth defects, for mothers holding twin fetuses, the levels measured, if higher than usual, can indicate twins.

On a physical level, Mothers and doctors will eventually discover the presence of two heartbeats in the womb.

And last, but not the least, the time-tested formula of an ultrasound will more than adequately state that you have a twin pregnancy, if that is the case.

Many women of childbearing age have had moments in time when they began to wonder if a little bundle of joy was on the way. In some cases, the thought occurs before a missed period and becomes a nagging thought in the back of her mind. Other times, it may be a fervent wish to be pregnant or an equally strong hope that she is not pregnant. Even before a late menstruation cycle, early signs of pregnancy can be detected if you know what to look for.

Missing a period is one of the classic early signs of pregnancy. However, interestingly enough, in some cases, a new mom to be may have a light period shortly after conception. It isn't an indication that anything is wrong necessarily, it just throws the progression of normal symptoms off and mom may not realize she is pregnant from this event alone. If the possibility of exists, an unusual period may be reason enough to explore some other pregnancy signs and take a home test just to be sure.

One of the lesser known early signs of pregnancy is a sudden sensitivity to smells. Maybe while getting ready for work one morning, you apply your favorite perfume and immediately are hit by a wave of nausea. Maybe you normally hate the smell of gasoline, but when you fill your carís tank, for some reason the scent isn't as unpleasant as before.

Experts attribute this sign of pregnancy as a result of higher levels of estrogen in a newly pregnant woman's body. This symptom can show up even before a missed period says something may have changed...

Early pregnancy signsJust like scent sensitivity, food cravings and aversions can be early signs of pregnancy. Strange food combinations eaten at weird times, aren't uncommon in the beginning stages of pregnancy. Some women report suddenly developing extreme aversions for foods or specific types of food that they used to love.
